As part of the Network Rail ongoing professionalisation of their project delivery functions, a pilot has
been initiated to use the comaea competency management system to offer new way develop their
people, inform future business decisions, and provide effective mobilisation of their workforce.
Aligning with the UK Government’s widely used Project Delivery Capability Framework which is
being used by over 9000 project professionals in government, Network Rail have simplified the self-
assessment and approval process using comaea. This has provided staff the ability to look at career
progression and targeted learning activities in a much more structured and user-friendly way than
before.
The pilot is being run in two phases with the first being completed in three out of the five regions - with very positive feedback received from the pilot group.
“system is easy to navigate and doesn't take too long to load and saves easily”
“I found the system pretty easy to navigate. Often systems are difficult to navigate because to get to where you want to, you have to click through many different sections - things almost get lost. Within this system this doesn’t seem to be the case.”
“Navigation is very clear and so easy”
“The system is well presented and it was easy for me to navigate. It is quite intuitive to use and I would have no hesitation using this system to record competencies and career planning”
Network rail now plan to roll out to a wider pilot group covering all five regions and will be looking to
get all 1100+ project professionals using comaea by the end of the year.
